ACTIVITY

Topic(s) of interest from 2018-2019 Transport Work Programme:
  • LC-GV-03-2019: User centric charging infrastructure

Fields of Activity: The WiSAR Lab is an industry focused research group within the Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT). WiSAR Lab was originally set up to focus on Body Area Networks (BAN) and the application of WSNs in buildings with an emphasis on evaluating and minimizing the power consumption of the devices used. The lab has expanded its expertise and has developed systems such as • Electric Vehicle chargepoint controllers and associated MIS/Web billing systems • Micro-inverters for use in Solar PV • Embedded Control systems incorporating Internet of Things The WiSAR Lab industry collaborations has included feasibility studies, RF design and testing, software design and full prototype development, including software, PCB design/build.

Skills and Experise Offered: Design and implementation of embedded control systems, incorporating Internet of Things connectivity, embedded Linux applications, hardware and software.
Design and implementation of EV charging controllers with associated MIS billing and grid integration software.
Design and build of multi-layer PCBs.
Experience in commercializing research through licenses (royalty generating) and through the launch of a spin-out company.

Keywords: Embedded systems, Embedded Linux, Software design, Hardware design, Green transport, innovation, pilot project, test-beds, simulation
