ETNA 2020 organizes the third training to National Contact Points and stakeholders in Rome (IT) on 7 June 2017. The main topic of this training is Joint Undertakings (JUs) and more specifically JUs in Transport related thematic areas.
Shift2Rail, CESAR & Clean Sky are Transport JUs, which offer many opportunities for stakeholders in both Research and Industrial Communities with a focus in specific transport fields (rail, aviation, aeronautics).
The objectives of the training event are the following:
- Have a better understanding of each JUs priorities and future strategic plans
- Become aware of each JU’s legal framework and possible financial specificities
- Receive information of the past and future activities of each JU

This “Trans-Atlantic Symposium on ICT Technology and Policy – 5G Networks, Big Data, Internet of Things and Cyber-Physical Systems for a Smart Society”, organised by the European Commissionfunded PICASSO project, hosted by the Technological Leadership Institute, University of Minnesota, and co-sponsored by additional EU and US organisations, will cover the spectrum from research assessments via commercialisation opportunities to policy issues in information and communication technologies (ICT) such as 5G networks, Big Data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) / cyber-physical systems (CPS). As part of the European Commission (EC) Directorate General for Maritime Affairs’ (DG MARE’s) European Maritime Day (EMD) event being held in Poole, UK on 18th and 19th May 2017, ETNA 2020 will be coordinating a workshop for highly innovative small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with mature products or services that need support to take these to the market-place. SMEs that are EU-based or established in a country associated to Horizon 2020, can get EU funding and support for projects that will help them grow and expand their activities into other countries – in Europe and beyond. The dedicated SME instrument’s supports close-to-market activities, with the aim to give a strong boost to breakthrough innovation. Highly innovative SMEs with a clear commercial ambition and a potential for high growth and internationalisation are the prime target.
This workshop will explain what the SME Instrument is and how businesses can apply for it. It will also feature top tips for writing a successful application from an official Evaluator. How maximize collaboration between NCPs (transport and SMEs) and EEN?, in particular, how to develop new tools to improve quality of SME instrument proposals in the transport sector?
ETNA2020 in collaboration with EEN and Access4SME project will organize a training on “Building common understanding and best practices on transport” to understand the role of each network in the SME instrument project life cycle, from the project idea to the project implementation to maximize collaboration between the 3 networks for a high quality of proposals.

INEA is launching the first call for proposal to support synergy actions between the transport and energy sector, with a total budget of €40 million.
Actions selected under this call will support the deployment of sustainable and efficient transport and energy infrastructure by contributing to achieving the following specific objectives:
- Ensuring sustainable and efficient transport systems, by supporting a transition to innovative low-carbon and energy-efficient transport technologies and systems, while optimising safety.
- Increasing competitiveness by promoting the further integration of the internal energy market and the interoperability of electricity and gas networks across borders.
- Supporting projects promoting the interconnection of networks in the Member states;
- Removing internal constraints;
- Decreasing energy isolation;
- Increasing the interconnectivity in electricity and achieving price convergence between the energy markets.

The second ETNA2020 training for stakeholders will take place in Novo Mesto, Slovenia on the 10th of November, following the Transport and Research in the Danube Conference.
The subject of the training will be how to go from the innovative idea to a H2020 Transport proposal. Participants will be trained by Transport NCPs and project management experts.
The training will be divided into several sessions, giving the participant a wide overview on the topic.
If you wish to participate, please register by the 30th of October. As the number of attendees is limited, participants will be served on a first come, first served basis.

International Conference REinEU2016 will be a prestigious event in the field of nanotechnologies, advanced materials, biotechnology and manufacturing technologies. The event aims to emphasize and discuss the role of science, research and innovation in sustainable development of the European economy in general and the implementation of the re-industrialisation of Europe – which means, to increase the share of the manufacturing sector in the EU’s GDP from the current 16% to 20% in 2020, as set in the communiqué of the EU “For a European Industrial Renaissance”. It focuses on the impact of research and innovation on the support and the growth of the production in the more “traditional” manufacturing sectors.
The conference aims to attract the attention of a broad European and international community of research and innovation, including important representatives of the business sector. The event will be financed from the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (NMBP). It will take place in Bratislava (Slovakia) from 26th to 28th October 2016 with an expected participation of 1,000 participants. It will be one of the largest events during the Slovak presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2016.
The Conference represents a unique opportunity for Slovakia to present the local view of the calls of Horizon 2020, which will be open in mid-2016, in the context of one of the new EU Member states and bring forward solutions tailored to these countries. The conference will include matchmaking event, poster sessions, site visits around Bratislava, workshops and competitions for students. The conference program also wishes to draw the attention on the cooperation of the Danube Region and V4 issues.
An important outcome of the conference should be a final strategy document as a basis for policy making for the next EU Presidency. The event is prepared in the close cooperation with the European Commission, as well as similar events organisers of the previous period (the Luxembourg and Dutch EU Presidency).
Centre of Scientific and Technical Information directly managed by the Ministry of Education, science, research and sport of the Slovak Republic was entrusted with the preparation of the event, in the role of coordinator. Implementation of the project started on September 1, 2015.
