Name of the Organisation: Technische Universität Darmstadt, Institute for Ergonomics & Human Factors

Organisation Short Name: IAD

Organisation Type: HES

Country: Germany

ACTIVITY

Topic(s) of interest from 2018-2019 Transport Work Programme:
  • MG-2-7-2019: Safety in an evolving road mobility environment
  • MG-4-4-2018-2019: Support for dissemination events in the field of Transport Research
  • MG-4-5-2019: An inclusive digitally interconnected transport system meeting citizens' needs
  • MG-4-6-2019: Supporting Joint Actions on sustainable urban accessibility and connectivity
  • DT-ART-03-2019: Human centred design for the new driver role in highly automated vehicles
  • DT-ART-04-2019: Developing and testing shared, connected and cooperative automated vehicle fleets in urban areas for the mobility of all
  • DT-ART-05-2020 - Efficient and safe connected and automated heavy-duty vehicles in real logistics operations
  • DT-ART-06-2020: Large-scale, cross-border demonstration of connected and highly automated driving functions for passenger cars
  • LC-GV-03-2019: User centric charging infrastructure
  • LC-GV-08-2020 - Next generation electrified vehicles for urban use

Fields of Activity: The Institute for Ergonomics & Human Factors is focused on the design of interactive systems. The goal is to adjust each system to the specific context it is used in and give the user access to the desired functions without putting to many demands on the user. Among others, the IAD tackles the following topics: - (driving) task design in highly automated vehicles (e.g. secondary tasks, ToR, mode awareness) - cooperation between multiple traffic participants (e.g. communication of highly automated cars with pedestrians and cyclists) - design and evaluation of multimodal and connected routes - acceptance of higher levels of automation and connectivity in vehicles - interface design according to the human-centered design process (EN ISO 9241-210)

Skills and Experise Offered: - requirement analyses (e.g. in-situ observations, interviews, surveys)
- driving simulation studies (also for highly automated driving in a high-fidelity driving simulator)
- real-world scenario-based studies (e.g. communication scenarios with pedestrians and highly automated vehicles on our own test track)
- real-world driving studies
- eye tracking and further psychophysiological methods (e.g. heart rate)
- human-centered vehicular interface design and user experience assessment

Keywords: automated driving; connected driving; driving simulation; human-centered design process; mode awareness; multimodal cooperation; ToR

Previous FP Projects Participated: - SeDaFa (Self-determined privacy in the connected car)
- @City
- Proreta
