ŁUKASIEWICZ RESEARCH NETWORK – AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY INSTITUTE

by Marek Lepkowski | Jan 22, 2020

ORGANISATION

Name of the Organisation: Łukasiewicz Research Network - Automotive Industry Institute

Organisation Short Name: Ł-PIMOT

Organisation Type: REC

Country: Poland

ACTIVITY

Topic(s) of interest from 2018-2019 Transport Work Programme:
  • LC-GV-08-2020 - Next generation electrified vehicles for urban use

Fields of Activity: Łukasiewicz – PIMOT is a professional, reliable and economically efficient research unit with modern infrastructure and equipment as well as state-of-the-art facilities. The Institute carries out development work and scientific research in the field of: automotive engineering, vehicle development, road safety improvement, alternative vehicle powering methods, fuels, biofuels, and lubricants. The main goal of the Łukasiewicz – PIMOT is to provide Polish entrepreneurs mainly from the transport, fuels, and renewable energy sources sectors with strong scientific and research support in the processes of product development and introduction of the products into world markets. The Institute’s activity is oriented at direct practical applications that are important for the development, innovativeness and competitive power of the Polish industry. Since April 2019, Łukasiewicz – PIMOT has been a part of the ŁUKASIEWICZ Research Network – third largest research network in Europe, operating in line with the “Science is Business” model.

Skills and Experise Offered: Department of Electromobility has competence in the field of powertrain systems and electrical installations design (HV and LV) for vehicles, in particular high-voltage EV installations, taking into account modern safety requirements. We have a large base of electric vehicle propulsion components and after performing a series of dynamics simulations, we can design a powertrain system, so that it can fulfill power requirements resulting from the detailed usage characteristics. Advanced simulations allow us to determine the energy demand of an electric vehicle with high precision and therefore a we can predict the range of the vehicle in various driving cycles. The department is working on the development of an electric autonomus military platform. In the course of work, for example, the authorial power distribution unit – PDU was created, as well as automated steering and braking systems. We are making calculations related to energy storage systems and we define requirements for companies designing and carring out battery modules. We are exploring operational characteristics of individual cells used in the automotive industry as well. Other our competences concern setting up key electronic components (VCU, BMS, BCM…) and their communication. We want to expand our research infrastructure for equipment for testing energy storage for compliance with regulation No. 100.2 EKG ONZ and competences for the possibility of programming VCU in accordance with the requirements of functional safety.

Keywords: vehicle, electromobility, batteries, autonomous, testing energy storage

Previous FP Projects Participated: 7 FP (WEEVIL project, ZeEUS project, ELIPTIC project)
